This spring allows you to fine-tune the plate clamping force of your Suter clutch, and will also affect lever pull.  Higher rate springs will have more clamping force, and will require more effort to pull the clutch lever.  Lower rate springs will have less clamping force, and require less effort to pull the clutch lever. This spring does not affect the operation of the slipper function.
